The ptbnet is a recently established pediatric tuberculosis European Trials group. It currently comprises pediatric clinicians, scientists and epidemiologists representing 15 countries within Europe. It has received initial funding from the European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID). We are working towards a structure where each country will be represented by a core cell of clinician, epidemiologist and laboratory expert in childhood TB. The aims of the network are: - to enhance the understanding of the pediatric aspects of active and latent tuberculosis
- to facilitate collaborative research studies for childhood TB in Europe - to provide expert opinion through excellence in science and teaching - to harmonise health care delivery/approaches within Europe - to establish an evidence base for diagnosis and treatment of TB in children Links with other/adult networks: The ptbnet has close links with the TBNET, a network of adult clinicians, which was established 3 years ago and has received funding via the European Respiratory Society and EU-FP7. (www.tb-net.org). The group is planning to set up a shared database system, which will facilitate clinical trials amongst its members. ptbnet is represented on the steering committee of TBNET and is already contributing to ongoing research studies. In addition, ptbnet collaborates with educational and scientific activities of PENTA, the Paediatric European Network for trials of AIDS and is open to other collaborations via the PID network.
